Self Storage FAQs


  1. The cost of storage depends on the amount of space that you rent. Call our office now at 516-378-1200 and one of our storage
    advisors can help you calculate the amount of storage space you’ll need. Click here for storage sizes. We have storage units that
    cost as little as $1.00 per day. Storage rentals are on a month-to-month basis.



  2. The largest single storage unit at Freeport Self Storage is 10x40, but if you need more space, we can rent you several units.
    We will discount your storage fee for multiple unit rentals.



  3. Yes, we sell moving boxes and packing supplies. Click here to see our inventory of boxes and packing supplies.
    Don’t see something you need? Just ask and we’ll be happy to find it for you.



  4. Yes, we rent trucks. Freeport Self Storage has two 15-foot box trucks with cargo ramps. These trucks are easy to drive and don’t require
    a special license. The cost to rent our truck includes a daily fee plus a mileage fee, an insurance fee and replacement of gas. A refundable
    security deposit is also required. You’ll need to provide your driver’s license, auto insurance card, and a credit card at the time of rental.



  5. Yes, we refer movers. There are many moving companies and many types of movers.
    We only refer movers that take good care of our customers.



  6. We offer discounts to seniors and the military.



  7. The storage facility does not insure your possessions. Freeport Self Storage customers are pre-approved by our storage insurance
    company so that you can insure your possessions the same day that you store with us. If you have homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, then
    you are probably already insured.



  8. No, Freeport Self Storage rents storage on a month-to-month basis so you don’t have to commit to a long-term rental. Freeport Self Storage will
    provide you with a written occupancy agreement that indicates your rights and responsibilities.



  9. Yes, Freeport Self Storage does accept deliveries. We are sales rep specialists so we’ll accept your delivery, put it into your storage
    unit, and keep a log of the delivery. We’ll even call you to let you know the delivery arrived.



  10. Freeport Self Storage has a strict policy against leaving garbage at the facility. This policy benefits all of our customers by keeping the
    facility clean and free of fire hazards. We can arrange for dumpster service or recommend charities for the donation of
    your unwanted goods. Freeport Self Storage does allow all of our customers to use a cardboard recycling dumpster for FREE.



  11. Our storage advisors will be happy to assist you with a free storage estimate. Our goal is to rent you the smallest
    storage unit that you’ll need and have you pack it full. You decide if you want a larger space.

  12. You will have unlimited access to your storage unit when the facility is open. Freeport Self Storage is open from 8am to 7pm from
    Monday through Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays. There is NO after-hour access to the storage facility. Freeport Self Storage is
    closed for the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day,
    Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.



  13. Freeport Self Storage accepts the following forms of payment: Cash, personal checks, money orders, credit cards — MasterCard,
    Visa and AMEX. Only cash or credit cards are accepted for new storage rentals, truck rentals, and box sales. Automatic
    credit card processing is available to storage customers.



  14. Freeport Self Storage is located at 73 E. Merrick Road in Freeport, NY. Freeport is located on the south shore of Long Island in Nassau
    County. Freeport Self Storage is located ¼ mile west of the Meadowbrook Parkway at the Home Depot/Staples shopping center.

  15. Freeport Self Storage only uses a pick-proof cylinder lock on every storage unit door. Freeport Self Storage will provide you with a lock
    and three keys when you rent a storage unit. Freeport Self Storage does not keep a key and does not have a master key to open your lock. A one-
    time, non-refundable $10 lock charge is required at the time of storage rental.



  16. Moisture is one of the greatest threats to the items that you store. There are several simple precautions to take
    when storing your possessions: place a plastic tarp on the floor and on top of your possessions, elevate your possessions
    off the floor, and use waterproof containers to store valuables, clothing and books. Our entire facility is climate-controlled.



  17. Freeport Self Storage offers a very safe place to store your possessions. A manager is always on site when the facility is open. Every
    customer is provided with an access code to enter and exit the facility at the gated entry. The facility is protected by a
    sprinkler system and fire alarm system in the event of a fire. All of our hallways are well lighted and intercoms are provided
    throughout the facility for contact with the office. The video surveillance system is in use 24 hours a day.



  18. Freeport Self Storage is a very secure storage facility. There has never been theft from a storage unit since the facility opened in 1997.
    Freeport Self Storage has a gated entry with automated access control for storage customers. The facility has state-of-the-art fire, burglar
    and sprinkler systems. Individual door alarms are provided on each storage unit and monitored by the on-site manager.



  19. Freeport Self Storage offers a very clean place to store your possessions.
    We pride ourselves on our clean office, restroom, hallways, and storage units.



  20. Freeport Self Storage opened for business in December 1997. It is family owned and operated so you’ll see the same storage manager
    every time you visit the facility.



  21. Freeport Self Storage is a member of the Freeport Chamber of Commerce, the National Self-Storage Association, and the
    New York State Self Storage Association.
    The manager of Freeport Self Storage is a former Director of the Freeport Chamber of Commerce.



  22. The entire building is heated and climate controlled. Freeport Self Storage maintains a temperature of 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit during
    the winter. We also circulate the air with fans and use dehumidifiers to prevent mold and mildew.



  23. There is always a manager on site when the facility is open. You don’t need to make an appointment to rent storage,
    buy boxes or rent a truck. Our storage advisors are always available to assist you. The facility is open from 8am to 7pm
    from Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.



  24. Yes. Freeport Self Storage provides hand trucks and moving carts for our storage customers free of charge. We also have a mobile freight
    lift to unload trucks.



  25. Yes. Freeport Self Storage also offers outdoor storage and parking for cars, trucks, trailers, boats, RVs and containers. Call for availability.



  26. It is usually not necessary to reserve a storage unit too far in advance because we have a large inventory of many
    different-sized units. However, we do recommend that you call and visit the facility one to two weeks in advance of your
    move to ensure that you get the unit of your choice, purchase boxes and arrange for a mover or truck. We will reserve
    storage units one week in advance of the rental.
